Recruitment of Passenger Focus Board Member for Wales

Welsh Board Member

Location: Flexible – based in Wales
Remuneration: £12,000 per annum

Passenger Focus is the independent public body that protects the interests of Britain’s rail passengers and England’s bus, coach and tram passengers outside London. We are funded by the Department for Transport but our independence is subject to guarantees made by Ministers in Parliament.

Our mission is to get the best deal for passengers through evidence-based campaigning and research, and aims to influence decisions and secure improvements to the journey experience. We are wishing to appoint a Board Member to represent Welsh interests.

You will work in partnership with the staff of the Transport Division of the Welsh Government and meet regularly with rail users, the media, industry leaders and other stakeholders. You will ensure that the passenger voice is not only heard, but understood and acted upon by those in positions of influence. You will contribute fully to the development and review of Britain-wide strategy and work plans. You will also be expected to chair public meetings, lead certain work and represent Passenger Focus on other bodies. You will have a demonstrable understanding of public transport passenger issues, particularly in Wales and understand the Welsh political environment and its interface with the rest of Great Britain. You will have proven relationship building skills and will use these skills and personal experience to make a difference for passengers.

A proactive individual with the ability to identify and promote the need for change, you’ll understand the importance of good governance and ensure we get value for money across the range of our activities.

The Board meets four times per year in public, in London and Manchester. You will be appointed for a term of up to four years. The current remuneration is £12,000 per annum, based on a contribution of four days per month.

All documents will be available in both English and Welsh. If you are unable to access the information, please telephone 0300 123 0835. Alternative formats of application packs
